Now that we're spending a bit more time outside in the nicer weather, it's time to tackle an area of our home that can sometimes be overfilled with not just indoor items but also outdoor junk, er - items...
This week our focus is on clearing the clutter in your garage! An area that is quite likely filled with old equipment and appliances, these items are exactly what we're going to zero in on.
Week 6: Garage Equipment & Appliances
Before you begin decluttering, look around the garage and evaluate all the equipment and appliances you have stored. Sort all of these items into three groups: keep, donate or discard. This will help you streamline the declutter process and maximize your efficiency.
Next, assess the condition of all the equipment and appliances. Are they functional? Are they relevant to your current needs? Discard any items that are no longer working or are irreparable, and get rid of any duplicate items you really don’t need.
Donate or sell any items that are in good working condition but that no longer serve a purpose in your home. Remember, someone else might find value in these items! You can often take items that are irreparable into the local recycling center, and certain stores might offer appliance recycling programs.
By clearing out all of the unnecessary items, you create more space that allows you to better use your garage, and maybe even open up space that you can dedicate for specific storage or for a dedicated workspace!
Once you've cleared the old equipment and appliances out, you can begin to organize the remaining items. Storage solutions like cabinets, shelves, or wall-mounted racks are definitely worth investing in to keep everything well-organized and maximize the space that you have!
It can also be helpful to label your storage totes or use transparent containers so you're able to easily see and find things inside.
By optimizing the layout of your garage, you create a more visually appealing and functional space that’s easier to locate the items you own.
Follow these Tips...
Remember to assess, sort, evaluate, dispose of and recycle items responsibly, all while utilizing the most effective storage solutions.
By investing some of your time and effort into decluttering your garage, you'll be able to enjoy the benefits of an organized and clutter-free environment and make the most out of its potential!
If you're thinking of selling your home this spring, remember that a cluttered home can turn off your potential buyers, but an organized and spacious home can increase the appeal, and therefore, the value!
